For this Monday Market Focus, I am looking at Gold / XAUUSD and the current market structure.
The market is forming a Head & Shoulders pattern and has already broken out of that pattern on the daily timeframe to the downside.
From the current market structure, there is a high possibility that Gold could move lower toward the $4,000–$4,100 price zone.
Because of the Head & Shoulders downside breakout, the market could potentially move toward this support zone.
Head & Shoulders Breakdown
The important development I am watching is the Head & Shoulders pattern breakdown on the daily timeframe.
The breakout has occurred toward the downside. Because of this structure, I am not looking to force buying trades from the current market area.
The potential downside area I am watching is the major $4,000–$4,100 support zone.
This is a major area of interest because the market could potentially move toward this support after the Head & Shoulders breakdown.
Why I Am Not Looking for Buy Trades Now
At the current stage, I do not consider it the right time to look for buying trades.
The Head & Shoulders pattern has already broken downward on the daily timeframe, while the major support zone is still below the current market area.
Instead of trying to anticipate a reversal, I would rather wait for the market structure to provide confirmation.
The downside structure needs to be respected while the market remains below the confirmation I am waiting for.
The Descending Trendline
The market is also forming a descending trendline pattern.
Previously, the market formed a descending trendline and, after breaking that trendline upward, produced a huge rally and strong upward movement.
A similar descending trendline is forming again, and this is the key confirmation I am watching for a possible bullish move.
What Happens If the Trendline Breaks Up?
If the current descending trendline breaks upward, there could be a strong upward move. That would be the point where I would start looking for buy setups and buy entries.
The important point is that the trendline breakout needs to happen first. Until that confirmation appears, I do not want to anticipate the bullish move.
→ Bullish momentum could develop
→ That is the area where I would start looking for buy setups and entries.
The Two Scenarios I Am Watching
Bearish Scenario
The current Head & Shoulders structure has already broken downward on the daily timeframe. If the downside structure continues, Gold could potentially move toward the major $4,000–$4,100 support zone.
Bullish Scenario
If the descending trendline breaks upward, I would then start watching for bullish setups and possible buy entries. The previous trendline breakout produced a strong upward move, which is why this trendline is important to monitor.
Why Patience Matters Here
At the moment, I do not see it as the right time to buy while the Head & Shoulders structure remains unresolved and the descending trendline has not broken upward.
At the same time, I also do not consider it the right time to sell aggressively because the major $4,000–$4,100 support zone is immediately below the current market area.
This creates a situation where confirmation is more important than prediction.
